Biography

Reshma, is a renowned folk singer of Pakistan, who is popular in India too. She was born in Loha village of in Tahsil Ratangarh, Rajasthan to a Banjara (Gypsy) family about 1947. Her family moved to Pakistan during the partition of India soon afterwards. She was discovered by the Pakistan radio and soon her voice was all around. Some of her famous tracks are “Dama Dam Mast Kalandar”, “Hai O Rabba nahion lagda dil mera”, “Sun charkhe di mithi mithi cook mahiya meinu yaad aunda”, “Wey main chori chori”, “Ankhiyan no rehen de ankhyan de kol kol”. Based in Lahore, she is an advocate of good relations between India and Pakistan. Reshma has been awarded several National awards and also holds the prestigious ‘Sitara-i-Imtiaz’ and ‘Legends Of Pakistan’ award given by the Pakistani President. Reshma has a daughter named Khadija and a son named Umayr. She once said that Indians have given her so much love that it can be returned only by singing for them.
